Governor Uba Sani’s administration has reiterated its resolve to guarantee universal access to basic education across Kaduna State, declaring it an offense for school-age children to roam the streets during school hours.

Speaking at the Sheikh Abubakar Gumi Market on Wednesday during the launch of the 2026/2027 School Enrollment Campaign, the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Malam Mubarak Mohammed, emphasized that education is a fundamental right rather than a privilege under the current government.
Addressing the broader challenge of out-of-school children across Northern Nigeria, Mubarak commended Governor Sani’s targeted interventions, revealing that the state has successfully reintegrated more than 360,000 children into the formal school system. The campaign has significantly slashed the state’s previous estimate of over 500,000 out-of-school children.
To accommodate the growing influx of pupils, SUBEB has constructed over 2,000 new classrooms across basic education centers state-wide.
The awareness campaign featured a sensitization walk by senior government officials, education stakeholders, and SUBEB staff, marching from the State Secretariat to the central market. Demonstrating the immediate impact of the drive, five children came forward during the event to seek enrollment, with the SUBEB Chairman directing officials to immediately register them in local primary schools.
Mubarak urged parents and guardians across the state to take full advantage of the free education policy, describing education as “the greatest leveler capable of elevating children from humble backgrounds to enviable heights.”
