By Ehis Agbon.

The race for the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) is heating up as aspirants declare interest in charting a new course for the association. For the first time in its history, members from Northern Nigeria are mounting a strong campaign to produce the next National President of the guild, breaking a tradition of over two decades of Southern leadership.

At the forefront of this historic push is Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu, a respected industry veteran with more than 25 years of active involvement in the AGN. Known for his steadfast commitment to the guild’s ideals and for championing the welfare of actors across the country, Yakubu is widely regarded as a bridge-builder who can unify the diverse regions of Nigeria under a common vision of growth.

His manifesto centers on unity, inclusivity, and empowerment, with promises to expand opportunities for actors, strengthen the guild’s professional standards, and foster collaborations that will position Nigerian actors more prominently on the global stage.

Yakubu is not alone in this bid. He is surrounded by a formidable team of aspirants who bring experience and passion to the table:

  • Feoma Okeke-Ozzoude

Feoma Okeke-Ozzoude, contesting for the position of National Secretary, has been described as a dynamic administrator with a reputation for efficiency and transparent service. Her candidacy signals a strong drive to bring fresh energy and organizational discipline to the guild’s national secretariat.

  • Michael Yusuf Michael

Michael Yusuf Michael, vying for Vice President (North West), is a rising figure in the creative industry who has been instrumental in mobilizing actors across Northern Nigeria. His vision is to strengthen regional participation in national AGN affairs.

  • Chief Ambassador Mokilese Osain Joseph

Chief Ambassador Mokilese Osain Joseph, in the race for Vice President (South South), combines diplomatic flair with grassroots mobilization. His candidacy embodies the spirit of inclusivity that Yakubu’s team has made a central campaign theme.

Supporters of the team argue that their emergence marks a turning point for AGN, bringing in leaders who not only represent Nigeria’s cultural diversity but also have the pedigree to elevate the guild into a new era of professionalism and opportunity.

“This election is not just about positions, it is about history,” said one supporter during a campaign meeting in Abuja. “Alhaji Sanusi Yakubu and his team represent a chance to balance leadership, unite the industry, and create a brighter future for every Nigerian actor.”

As the countdown to the AGN election continues, all eyes will be on whether this historic northern-led push will succeed in reshaping the leadership map of one of Nigeria’s most influential creative guilds.
