Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway Project to Boost Security and Spur Investment — IPAC

The Kaduna State Government has unveiled a comprehensive palliative support designed to help cushion the impact of the removal of subsidies.

The Kaduna State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has praised Governor Uba Sani for championing the swift completion of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Federal Highway, a key infrastructure project expected to transform the region’s socio-economic landscape.

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna, IPAC State Chairman Hon. Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha highlighted the significance of the project, describing it as a reflection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development across Nigeria.

Mustapha noted that the ongoing reconstruction of the 700-kilometer highway—featuring concrete-reinforced pavement, solar-powered lighting, and CCTV surveillance—will significantly improve the movement of people and goods, while enhancing security throughout the corridor.

According to IPAC, approximately ₦252 billion (around $168 million USD) has already been disbursed to the new contractor, following the termination of the previous contract with construction firm Julius Berger.

“The highway is not just a road project; it’s a lifeline for economic activity, investment, and security in the region,” Mustapha stated. He applauded the collaboration between the federal and Kaduna state governments in driving the initiative forward, stressing the need for close supervision to prevent delays or abandonment due to corruption—an issue that has plagued similar projects in the past.

IPAC also called on authorities to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability and maximize its impact on surrounding communities.

Mustapha outlined several expected benefits of the highway’s reconstruction, including job creation, economic stimulation, increased investor confidence, enhanced local business activity, and reduced transportation costs.

“Ultimately, the project will uplift the local economy, improve living standards, and ensure safer travel for millions of Nigerians,” he concluded.
