The Executive Secretary, (E.S) of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris M. Bugaje said there will no be admission in departments of Mass Communication in Nigeria due to the unbundling process of the department into three.

This was disclosed in a circular dated 8th January, 2024, to the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC).
The letter signed by the Executive Secretary of the NBTE, Professor Idris M. Bugaje stated that the reason for the skip of the 2024/2025 admission is due to the emerging trends and the need to strategically position polytechnics graduates for specific opportunities for national development.
”I wish to notify you that the Board has unbundled HND Mass Communication programme run in all institutions under purview.
The new specialized areas floated out of the former are as follows: HND Strategic Communication and Media Studies, HND Journalism and Media Studies and HND Film and Multimedia Production,” Bugaje stated.
”Subsequently, there will no be longer admission into the HND Mass Communication programme from the 2024/2025 academic session”.
He further said that students that have already been admitted into the former programme are given up to 2025 to phase out.
