The Commissioner Ministry Sports Development Kaduna State, Professor Kabir Mato has given an insight into the cash prizes that will be won at the maiden Kaduna Marathon, with the top winne smiling to the bank with $10,000.
Professor Mato made this known during a press briefing and unveiling of the Marathon tagged, “Kaduna Runs” by Governor Nasir el-Rufai held at the Council Chambers, Kaduna State Government House on Saturday.
“The elite athletes winner gets $10,000 but you know in marathon, the first ten are givien prizes the number ten is expected to go with $1,000 for both male and female categories.
“For the local participants, N3m for both male and female first finishers and the tenth gets N350,000,” he said.
Speaking further, he said that they are inviting 20 elite runners internationally.
“The forms are online so whoever is interested can fill it online,” he added.
Speaking while delivering the welcome remarks, he said that the Governor decided to carve a niche by creating Ministry of Sports Development.
He said 75 per cent of Kaduna population is below 35 years, making sports very important.
Mato stressed that the Governor is poised to producing and reproducing sportsmen and women that will make Nigeria proud and Kaduna greater in sports.
He said the need informed the maiden Kaduna Marathon which is to compete with others held internationally by standards.
