The new Sokoto/Zamfara Customs Area Controller , Comptroller Kamal Mohammed has called for robust inter agency cooperation and synergy to strengthen effective intelligence and information sharing for safeguarding the nation’s border.
Kamal spoke on Tuesday while at the Nigeria -Niger Republic border post at Illela , Sokoto state.
The newly posted Area Controller embarked on the visit to the border post preparatory to the reopening of the border following the lifting sanctions by ECOWAS.
” With the lift of ECOWAS sanctions on Niger Republic, and subsequent restoration of power supply to Niger Republic, It is on this premise I came to ensure all is set towards the re-opening of the Illela Border while we await the last order”
According to the Area Controller, the synergy and collaboration would further promote effective and efficient operations that will enable the service fulfill its assigned mandate while appreciating Customs License Agents for their patience during the seven (7) Months border closure.
” We know it has not been easy for you, but God willing it will soon become history”.
Meanwhile , a release by the Area PRO Abdullahi Abubakar Tsafe said Comptroller Kamal acknowledged and thanked Illela community for being hospitable by positively driving the objective of core CSR.
However, the Service awarded the construction of a primary health care at the Border station which if completed , will cater for both officers and the Illela community.
The Comptroller also paid homage to Sarkin Gobir of Gwadabawa appealing to the royal father on the need to educate his ward against the menace of smuggling which he described as sabotage to nation economy.
