The Sokoto state Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the arrests of drivers of 14 commercial vehicles including passengers along highways linking the state with parts of the country for flouting the restriction of movement order.
In a release made available to reporters on the various arrests, the command PPRO, ASP Abubakar Sadiq said the operations were carried out between the 11th and 14th day of the restriction order by the Joint Task Force patrol team on the Sokoto-Zamfara road axis.
Sadiq said 8 of the vehicles were Sharon brand while two others were Volkswagen and Honda Accord brands respectively.
The drivers he said included Bello Buda, Hali Musa, Muntari Musa Sokoto, Aminu Bello of Shuni town, Lawan Sani, , Lawan Usman,, Muhammad Haruna and Sa idu Magaji,
Sabiu Abubakar , Muhammad Abubakar all of Kano and One Elias Omada of Kogi State who was along with his family including Uzoma Okoronko Elias, Onyinye Okoronko and Favour Okoronko all of Abia state.
In a similar operations by the Police patrol a Ford Motor vehicle boarded from Shinkafi, Zamfara state heading to Kwara state was also intercepted with 9 passengers according to Sadiq.
” Also, on the 12th day of April, 2020, a patrol team intercepted an Avensis vehicle, boarded by 4 passengers from Koko, Kebbi state heading to Sokoto”, he disclosed.
According to the command image maker, all suspects would be arraigned in court for prosecution while urging citizens in the state and the general public to respect and obey the restriction order which he said was for the good and health of Nigerians as measure to curtail and the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
