Ewatto- The Ikpea Family of Ewatto, in Esan South East local government area of Edo State yesterday April, 16 2020 commenced distribution of over five thousand bags of Rice and other food items worth millions of naira to their communities in Ewatto.
Flagging off the distribution in Ewatto, the head of the Ikpea family, Chief (Dr.) Leemon Ikpea said the food items were to help cushion the harsh effects of the Coronavirus disease outbreak in Nigeria.
Represented by Hon. Joseph Ikpea, he said the family was moved by the challenges the people were facing especially the aged ones and indigents sequel to the various restriction orders by the government to prevent the spread of the virus in the state.
He explained that the food items were for the aged and the vulnerable people across the communitues that make up the Ewatto Kingdom. The Ikpea family further disclosed that the family had equally made some cash donations available along side the materials.
Hon. Joseph Ikpea who is also Edo State Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Oil and Gas while speaking unbehalf of the family said their efforts were to complement that of Government and other well meaning citizens in the fight against the disease.
They called on the people to adhere to all safety protocols outlined by relevant authorities, further advised the people to maintain safe acts of social distancing, regular hand washing with soaps, use of sanitizer and avoid touching their faces and handshakes.
Speaking to Newsmen, Hon. Joshua Osaigbovo, a native of Ewatto expressed gratitude to the Ikpea Family for rising to the needs of their communitues at this emergency period. He appealed to well meaning Ewatto families to emulate same.
Some of the beneficiaries including: Chief Moses Ekos, Madam Therasa Omozele, thanked the Ikpea family for the gesture and prayed God continue to bless and protect them.
