A Sokoto state High Court has fixed February 24 the , 2022 for judgment on the N50 million character defamation case filed by the former Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Sokoto state Council, Labaran Lumo Dundaye
against Leadership Newspaper Group Limited and it’s Sokoto based Leadership Hausa reporter, Sharafdeen Sidi Umaru Dogondaji.
The presiding Judge, Justice Malami Dogondaji on Tuesday announced the date shortly after the presentation of final addresses by counsels to the three parties in the matter.
The plaintiff, Labaran Dundaye was represented in the case by Muhammed Adeleke Chamber led by Barrister Muhammed Adeleke while Barrister Abdulhameed Zubairu represented Leadership Group Limited, publisher of the Hausa Leadership and Mr.S.E King stood for the second respondent( the reporter)
The suit on the matter was filed about seven years ago by Dundaye demanding N50 million damages after three negative publications against him by the Leadership Newspaper Group Limited in its Hausa tabloid in 2012 and 2015 respectively
However, it will be recalled that the case was started by the Sokoto state former Chief Judge, Bello Abbas who reached judgement stage but could not deliver the judgement before he retired from service and the case reassigned and later retired from the service to the incumbent, Justice Dogondaji.
