A 35-year-old driver, Daniel Mark, has been arraigned by the police at a Daura Road Chief Magistrates’ Court, Kaduna, for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s daughter.
The defendant, a resident of Nasarawa Ward, Kaduna, is standing trial on a two-count charge of indecency and assault.
The prosecutor, Sunday Baba, told the court that the defendant’s neighbour, Maryam Umar, reported the matter at Kakuri Police Station, on February 28.
He said the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation.
Baba alleged that the defendant lured the complainant’s four-year-old daughter to his room on February 18 and had carnal knowledge of her.
He alleged that the defendant threatened to kill the victim if she informed anyone of the incident.
The prosecutor added that during investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime.
The offence contravenes sections 260 and 240 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law of 2017.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Zainab Mohammed, granted the defendant bail at N500,000 with two sureties.
She said the sureties must live within the jurisdiction of the court and submit two recent passport photographs.
Mohammed ordered that the sureties must present evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna State government and adjourned hearing till April 14
