… Charges Journalist to be Fearless and Objective!
The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State has Congratulated Journalists on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, celebrated every May 3.
Edo PDP charged the media community not to relent in its commendable role as fearless and objective partners in the collective effort to take Nigeria to greater heights.
This felicitation was contained in a press statement, issued by the Edo PDP Publicity Secretary, Chris Osa Nehikhare, who also hailed the excellent work of the media in Edo in ensuring that whenever issues of transparency, accountability, fairness and leadership is raised by the people and opposition party in the state, the media is there to give it a robust reportage and wide publicity. The partnership has been key in not only keeping the state government in check, inform Edo people of a viable government in waiting but also a responsive, responsible, peaceful and not a vindictive party waiting to form that government.
Nehikhare said “Edo PDP felicitates the media on this occasion of the World Press Freedom Day and salutes the courage and forthrightness with which Journalists have reported the activities, opinions as well as views of the opposition, especially at this very auspicious time, when our State, our Nation, and the entire World is confronted with the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
“The media community in Edo State has been magnificent and we are deeply appreciative of the cordial support and partnership we have enjoyed with Journalists and practitioners over the years, and while charging that you avoid the publications of fake news and unconfirmed reports, urge you to continue to display the hallmarks of courage, objectivity, and high professionalism, which have defined your practice.
“As you celebrate the World Press Freedom Day today, we need not emphasize the reality that our collective existence as the human race is presently being threatened by the invisible spectre of Covid-19. It is our hope and expectations that you will not relent in your professional duties to continue to sensitize our people on the critical guidelines mandated by World health authorities, as well as the directives and orders issued by the relevant local authorities to save lives and contain the spread of the virus.
Once again congratulations on the World Press Freedom Day. Together, we will defeat this pandemic.
PDP… making the people matter!
