Protesting staff of the Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday blocked the main gate to the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, preventing the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and Acting Permanent Secretary, Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, from entering the premises.

A video circulating on social media platform X captured union members assembled at the entrance as a official motorcade conveying the minister arrived at the ministry.
The demonstration stems from a heated dispute between the workers’ unions and the Federal Government over the proposed 35-year concession of King’s College, Lagos, to its old boys’ association.
Beyond their firm opposition to the concession, the striking workers cited unaddressed administrative concerns and staff welfare grievances within the ministry.
The labor unions have previously called for the immediate removal of the minister over the management of the secondary institution.
Wednesday’s blockade highlights persisting labor tensions within the education sector, as prior engagements between the ministry’s leadership and trade union representatives have failed to yield a resolution.
