Eid -Fitr: Wamakko frees 60 inmates including a woman in Sokoto custodial centres

SENATOR Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko( APC -Sokoto) has secured the release of 60 inmates including a woman from the National Correctional Service custodial centres in Sokoto state.

The gesture was coordinated through the Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko free Legal Service Foundation as part of the Senator’s relentless efforts in improving the lives of the people in general.

Before their release, the inmates were serving various terms jail sequel to offences committed.

The humanitarian commitment by Wamakko is coming hours to the Eid-Fitr festivity is the latest in 9 years of Wamakko’s humanitarian support to freeing inmates in the state, a statement by Bashar Abubakar, Special Assistant to the Senator on Media and Publicity said on Tuesday.

” Is part of the Senator’s tradition since 2015 to date in order to reduce number cases and decongest the custodial centres”, Abubakar explained.

The State Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Nasir Muhammad Binji, represented by one of the Directors in the Ministry, Barrister Mustapha Abubakar who noted that some of the inmates were docked for cases that happened out of their will and some were destined to be there also admonished the freed inmates to steer clear from the same mistakes that will take them back to the custodial centres.

He commended the leadership style and the unwavering commitment of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, describing him as a with routine and dogged benefactor to the less- privileged.

Representing the Sokoto North Senatorial District lawmaker, Barrister Bashir Mu’azu Jodi congratulated the ex-convicts expressing that it was disheartening to hear the stories that put some of them into custody.

He called on other stakeholders in the state to put in their hands in saving innocent lives from the custodial centres.

Also, Secretary of the foundation, Barrister Abdulhamid Zubairu disclosed that each inmate was presented with transport fees to be able to go home and reunite with families.

He explained that the gesture by Senator Wamakko was to enable them celebrate Sallah festival with their families and charged them to be good ambassadors while in society.

Garba Usman, one of the ex-convicts wjo was at the Sokoto North Senatorial Office venue of the event thanked the Senator for the gesture and prayed to Allah the Almighty to reward him abundantly.
