The recent Governorship Primary Elections conducted by the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Ekiti State leaves so much to ponder and will continue to remain a subject of debate.
The Saturday May 5, 2018, Gubernatorial primary election of the APC in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital ended in a fiasco, with supporters from various warring Aspirants destroying ballot boxes, some carting away Electoral materials while others engaged each other in a free for all fights.
As if this is not enough, the former “Progressive” Party (APC), Guber Aspirants after the fisticuffs, started another round of battle, engaging each other with several unpalatable and unprintable words.
Mr. Kayode Fayemi, the Minister of Solid Minerals and former Governor of the state, accusing Ojudu and Daramola of being desperate, hence the disruption of the primary, while Mr. Segun Oni, also a fomer Governor of the State describing the fiasco as a shame and an embarrassment to the people of Ekiti State.
It was indeed an unprecedented show of shame, an aberration, an opprobrium, a disgrace and an expo of what has remained of the APC. Empty, loosely packaged strange bed fellows hurriedly put together in 2014 with the sole aim of snatching political and economic powers from Nigerians.
However, the PDP In direct contrast to the hocus-pocus primary election of the APC gave a good example of themselves on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. The PDP conducted a hitch-free, peaceful, transparent and credible primary election which produced the Deputy Governor, Professor Kolapo, Olusola Eleka as the Candidate of the Party in the July 14, 2018 Governorship Election in Ekiti State.
This is a clear departure from the APC and has reminded the people of Ekiti State and indeed all Nigerians that the PDP remains the only viable political Party in the Country. The only Party that does not belongs to any person or group of persons. The only Democratic Party in Nigeria. The Party that delivered the people of this nation from the stranglehold of the military in 1999. The Party that is warming up and will redeem Nigerians again from the suffocating hardship and dilemma under the failed APC in 2019.
It is therefore incumbent on the electorates in Ekiti State to choose wisely. Nigerians can now differentiate between a political Party and some groups of persons with no agenda for the growth and development of the Country, but with the sole aim, intent and purposes of destroying the foundation laid by previous administration of the PDP.
