Elections: Dingyadi hails police performance, denies allegations of subverting opponents franchise

The Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi has said that the police have displayed professionalism and decorum at the presidential, governorship and state assemblies elections conducted across the country.

He noted that the police had done well proving wrong those who were peddling negative impression of possible violence during the exercise.

Dingyadi made the remarks at the weekend in Sokoto while speaking to reporters.

He said electorate had the latitude to freely and peacefully exercise their franchise without barriers.

” The excellent performance of the police was due to the training organised for middle and lower cadre personnel before the elections on how to positively relate with the civil population in the course of the process.

” Training and retraining has been the focus and priority of the police to size up with global requirements”, he disclosed.

While countering allegations and accusations by the opposition PDP of using his office as Minister of Police Affairs to deny, intimidate and threaten supporters of the party in Sokoto state during the polls, Dingyadi described the allegations as defeatists accusations and excuses to justify their loss.

According to the Minster, ” I was never on course as a Minister during elections bit a member of APC and never influenced the use of Police to win elections for my party.

” You should know that I was a campaign DG for Tambuwal in 2015 and made same in 2019 for Aliyu Sokoto and still took the responsibility in the 2023 polls. So, I don’t know their worries.”

He described APC as a party that came to stay with overwhelming support and in high spirit to driving the country for peace ,unity and prosperity.

” Our party in the state and National levels did not only plan but is equal to the task based on its bison and mission to making Nigeria and citizens united in peace and benefit from the lofty provisions that address their yearnings and aspirations.

” Our successes are not unconnected with the calibre of our candidates and let me say that we are confident of winning the supplementary polls in Sokoto state and other places”, he boasted in appreciation of the unalloyed support to the party by Sokoto people as he hinted that the Ministry was working round the clock to ensure police barracks across the country received attention in terms of renovation and habitation noting that ” we are aware of the degree of dilapidation in the barracks which we are working to tackle.”
