Nigeria’s U-20 Women’s national team, the Falconets, have been eliminated from the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup following a dramatic 1–0 quarter-final loss to Colombia in Lodz, Poland.
After keeping the South Americans at bay through 90 scoreless minutes, Nigeria conceded in the second minute of second-half stoppage time, with Valerin Loboa scoring the decisive goal to send Colombia into the semi-finals.
The Falconets created several opportunities during the encounter, notably in the 19th minute when forward Janet Akekoromowei saw her strike from the edge of the penalty area hit the crossbar.
Following the match, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Acting General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme commended the squad’s performance, noting that the team created enough chances to win and encouraging the players not to be disheartened by the result.
Similarly, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Poland, Chioma Ohakim, commended the team for their resilience and strong showing throughout the tournament.
