Frank Okiye Emerges Speaker Of Edo Assembly Amidst Alleged Imposition

The member representing Esan North East 1 in the Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, has emerged the Speaker of the House.

Okiye emerged the Speaker of the House during the inauguration of the Seventh Assembly held on Monday night.

The inauguration had 19 out of 24 legislators in attendance.

After ushering the lawmakers into the chambers, the Clerk of the House, Audu Omogbai, read the proclamation letter transmitted to the House by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Okiye’s emergence comes amidst alleged imposition of the leadership of the House by the state government.

19 aggrieved lawmakers had earlier addressed a press conference where they claimed that the governor was trying to impose the leadership of the house on members.

The Edo State Commissioner for Information, Paul Ohonbamu, however, refuted the claims, insisting that Governor Obaseki has not broken any law
