Gov Aliyu Sokoto Tasks AFAN on Food Sufficiency

Sokoto state Governor Dr Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto on Thursday charged agriculture oriented associations to actively encourage the state government in driving its dream of achieving food sufficiency.

Aliyu Sokoto stated while receiving the state branch of All Farmers Association of Nigeria(AFAN) on a courtesy call in his office led by its Chairman, Jamilu Sanusi Muhammad.

He noted that agriculture was key and necessary aspect for human survival adding ” is a life sustainer and your association’s importance cannot be over emphasised”, he pointed out.

The Governor described the association as a strong pillar and driver to the development of agriculture in view of its role of providing raw materials and the development of the economy.

He assured of the state government readiness to partner with the association as well extend support towards ensuring agriculture was responsively revamped to boost the state economy not only for consumption but for long term commercial benefits.

Earlier , the Chairman, Jamilu Sanusi told the Governor that the mission of the association was to support a robust partnership that would deepen commitment of the state government towards modern agriculture approach to farming for more yields.

He said the establishment of soil laboratory, a commodity board, introduction of palliative for farmers, mechanised farming approach, improved seedlings and and relevant consumables as herbicides, pesticides fertilisers among others would further boost production , create employment, precision farming and for better output that can stand the demand of international buyers.

” All these would need active partnership that will also provide space for sensitization, reduce or eliminate losses from the side of farmers, stabilise price benefits proportion, revenue generation, provide avenue for modern training on techniques, among other sundry benefits that would accrue to the state”, he enumerated.
