HOME GROWN SCHOOL FEEDING: Federal Government reviews cost of feeding children Schools

The Federal Government has reviewed the cost required to feed a child in the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme from 70 Naira per meal daily to 100 Naira.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq made this known in Abuja at a two-day National Consultative Meeting on Public Food Procurement in the Context of Nigeria’s National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in collaboration with Resolve to Save Lives, RTSL.

Represented by the National Coordinator, National Social Investment Programme, Dr. Umar Bindir, the Minister Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq explained that the review was to reflect the current economic realities.

Hajiya Sadiya noted that the meeting was to improve and enhance the mode of operation of the programme.

The RTSL Country Representative Dr Emmanuel Agogo said the meeting was imperative to ensure the pupils are fed nutritious meals according to W.H.O requirements.

The HomeGrown School Feeding Program was initiated in 2016 with the collaboration of international development partners to provide nutritious meals for public school children in primary1 to 3 as well as to increase school enrolment.
