The Sokoto Zonal Command office of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in persons (NAPTIP) was on Saturday razed down by fire without lost of life.
The fire outbreak reports say began at the Shelter section of the office to other offices of the command.
However, the command’ s Public Relations Officer(PRO) , Hajiya Hassana who confirmed the incident said the occurrence was a devastating scenario.
” We are greatful ti God that no life was lost during the fire outbreak and survivors at the shelter all escaped unhurt”, She said.
Accordingly, reliable source from NAPTIP who spoke and refused to be mentioned suspected the electrical fault to be the cause of the fire.
Also, Malam Isa Tudun Wada from Sokoto state said the news of the fire outbreak came to them as a great shock noting that all hope of securing justice for victims of Gender Based Violence, (GBV), Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) as well as Harmful Practices (HP) within Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara largely depends on NAPTIP.
On the incident, a concerned indigene from Kebbi State, said attention and interest should not only dwell on investigating the remote cause of the inferno as he appealed to the Sokoto State government to urgently provide a temporary place for the agency pending the Federal Government quick action for an office for he agency.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Sokoto State GBV Response Team, Rabiu Gandi, who also lamented over the incident, described NAPTIP as a reliable partner in the state’s effort towards curbing crimes against humanity in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States .
According to him” the agency require urgent and sustained support over the fire incident to sustain its drive towards fighting the course for human survival against GBV related crimes and offences in persons.”
