Kaduna H’Court Nullifies Kaduna Controversial Electoral Law

A Kaduna High Court presided by Honourable Justice Edward Andow, yesterday, declared as nullity Section 22 sub section 5 of the Kaduna State Electoral Law 2021, that was passed by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and assented by the Governor, Nasir Ahmed el-Rufai.

The section of the law, before yesterday’s ruling, empowered the Governor to appoint an  Administrator to preside over the affairs of any Local Government in the state in the event of inconclusive election or where it could not take place due to violence or other related reasons.

Counsel to the Plaintiffs, Dr. Ayodele Adewole, said, the section of electoral law was declared nullity because it is inconsistent with provision of Section 1and 7/1 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

“The relieves sort by the three plaintiffs who are the Kaduna State Chapter of the PDP; Honourable Felix Hassan Hyat and Honourable Ibrahim Aliyu Wusono,” Dr. Adewale further explained.

The landmark judgement was delivered barely 5 days to the 4th September, 2021 council election in Kaduna State.
