Kaduna  NUJ Readmits  Former Chairman,  Two Others

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council  has read minted its former  Chairman,  Garba Mohammed  and two other members  who were suspended  for dragging the council  to court.

The decision was contained in a communique issued at the end of its emergency Congress held on Thursday May 24, 2018, dated by Communique committee: Mr. Joseph Edegbo -Chairman, Mr. Amos Tauna – Secretary and Zainab Tanimu – Member,
signed by Council Secretary,  Dauda Idris Dora.
“The congress agreed that for peace to reign in the union, members have agreed to apply wisdom and the heart of forgiveness for the council to move forward.
“It is against this background that the congress overwhelmingly resolved to readmit the claimant, Malam Garba Mohammed and other two suspended members Balarabe Lawal Zaria and Abubakar Abba back to the union, ” it stated.
It explained  that the Kaduna State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists held its emergency congress on May 24th, 2018 to deliberate on the former chairman of the council, Malam Garba Mohammed, who was impeached over alleged constitutional breach.
Subsequently, he took the council to Court challenging his impeachment.
In the process, the council set various committees to look into the issues with a view to ensuring peace and unity among members of the council.
The committees comprising elders and former leaders of the council recommended the need to have a united and peaceful union.
 It is against this background the council in line with the union’s constitution, the committees recommended that the former Chairman Malam Garba Mohammed to withdraw the Court case to pave way for settlement.
“After extensive deliberations by both parties including their respective legal counsels, the following terms were agreed upon:
1 That the matter pending before the honourable Court with Suit No. NICN/4/2017 shall will be withdrawn by the claimant.
2 That an emergency congress will be called to lift the suspension of all the members who were suspended as a result of acts arising from this case.
3 That the claimant shall write a letter of resignation which be accepted by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kaduna State chapter.
4 That the defendants shall convene an emergency congress on or before the 25th day of May, 2018 and at the congress a resolution shall be passed substituting the impeachment with resignation and readmitting the claimant as a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kaduna State council.
5 That a communique will be issued and distributed to all media organizations irrespective of the resolution and forwarded to the national body of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
6 That it is agreed by the parties that the terms as contained in the terms of settlement shall constitute the judgment of this honourable Court between the parties with respect to this Suit, ” it stated.
According to the  communique,  other resolutions  from the Congress included  the acceptance  of  resignation  letter for the former Chairman.
” After deliberations on the for going and having submitted his resignation letter and accepted by the congress as contained in the terms of reference, the congress passed a resolution of substituting Garba Muhammed impeachment with a resignation,” it concluded.
