KADUNA STATE 2023 APPROVED BUDGET: EXPENDITURE ON ENGAGING NON-STATE ACTORS

The primary purpose of government is the security and welfare of its citizens. There is no better way to deliver on this purpose than to inform, consult, involve, collaborate and empower the citizens in determining the government’s priority and delivery of the services. The Kaduna State 2023 approved budget has various allocations for engagements with and support for citizens, stakeholders, civil society organizations and communities.

Citizens’ Engagement Expenses has an allocation of about N2.5 billion. Similarly, about N340 million has been allocated to Stakeholders’ Sensitization and Mobilization. While Support to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has been allocated about N38.7 million; Stakeholders Engagement on Budget Preparation and Implementation got an allocation of about N46.6 million.

In addition, about N306 million has been allocated for Grant To Communities/NGOs; Community Engagement on Alternative Sources of Cooking Fuel got about N33.9 million; and Open Government Partnership Activities got allocation of N15 million. Interestingly, other similar allocations include: about N561 million allocated for Publicity & Advertisements; and with Special Days/Celebrations being allocated about N261 million.

Half year into the year, it will be interesting to know the activities done as well as the participants and beneficiaries; how much has been expended out of the above allocations; and what is the cost benefit for each?

Lets engage, ask the right questions and hold the government accountable.
