The family confirmed that the 21-month-old boy passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, after a brief illness. In an official statement, the family expressed that they are “devastated by this profound loss” and have made a heartfelt appeal for privacy as they grieve.
Adichie, who is famous for books like Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah, first shared news of the twins’ arrival in February 2025, though the boys were born in 2024. True to her private nature, she had kept their names and identities away from the public eye to protect them.
This sudden tragedy has brought a wave of support and sympathy from world leaders, fellow writers, and fans across the globe.
