The 2019 National and State Assemblies Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Sokoto will on Thursday, May 23 , 2019, commence main trial in the Petition filed before it by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ), Senator Ahmed Mohammed Maccido, who is challenging the declaration of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ), as the winner of the Sokoto North Senatorial District election, conducted on February, 23, 2019 .
Senator Maccido was defeated at the February 23rd National Assembly elections by incumbent Senator Wamakko, candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) with a landslide margin to retain his seat in the senate.
Accordingly, tribunal is to commence the hearing of evidences and the presentation of witnesses on same date.
Counsels have fourteen days to present their witnesses and evidences before the Court, between Thursday, May 23, 2019, to 16th August, 2019.
However, Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Peter Akhimie Akhihiero said that , Judgment in the case will be delivered on Friday , September 13, 2019.
Meanwhile, the Tribunal had at its sitting presented the report of the Pre-trial conference in the matter .
