Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected for a second term as President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), securing a renewed mandate to lead African football through the next phase of its development. The re-election took place at the 44th CAF Congress in Cairo, where Motsepe was the sole candidate, having been unanimously endorsed by the continental football body.
Motsepe, who initially assumed the role in 2021, has been a pivotal figure in driving significant reforms within African football. His tenure has been marked by initiatives aimed at improving the governance, infrastructure, and financial health of the sport across Africa.
In his acceptance speech, Motsepe expressed gratitude to the CAF members for their continued trust and support. He highlighted his commitment to further enhancing the competitiveness of African football and ensuring its global recognition.
“I am honored to serve a second term and remain dedicated to fostering the growth of football across the continent,” Motsepe said. “We will continue to focus on youth development, women’s football, and improving the overall football ecosystem in Africa.”
Under Motsepe’s leadership, CAF has made strides in organizing major tournaments, including the successful relaunch of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the expansion of the CAF Champions League.
As Motsepe enters his second term, stakeholders will be keen to see how he continues to implement his vision and tackle challenges, including enhancing the financial sustainability of African football and boosting infrastructure investments.
