A new National executive for the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has emerged. At the end of its National 10th Triennial Delegates Conference in Minna, Niger State, Saturday, Ladi Bala, an indigene of Adamawa State and a seasoned Journalist with Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) clinched the coveted position of the National President.
In a keenly contest which attracted about one thousand delegates from across the nation, Ladi Bala through her well coordinated campaign machinery and a strong home-based support from Adamawa State Council, defeated her closest rival from Borno State Aisha Ibrahim with a wide margin.
The Returning officer, Chief Boniface Okolo Ezeogo, while announcing the results at the end of voting, declared Ladi winner and returned elected.
Ladi Bala polled a total of 439 votes to defeat her closest rival, Aisha Ibrahim who had 251 votes.
Lucy Danjuma Chindaba, a presidential aspirant from Plateau State came a distant third with 85 votes, while Ruth Abubakar from Gombe state polled 48 votes.
Lilian Okonko from Rivers State emerged as Deputy National President.
Tears of joy flowed uncontrollably from her supporters as Ladi Bala fell down thanking Almighty God for her victory.
Other winners include; Helen Udofa as National Secretary while Fatimah Rasheed from Kwara state emerged as treasurer.
Dorcas Philemon, a crowd puller from Taraba clinched Zonal Vice President, Northeast beating her counterpart from Yobe State, Aisha Tijani.
Tanni Samuel Akas emerged Zonal secretary.
Vilian Murray from Adamawa State lost to Tanni as Zonal Secretary, Northeast due to concession as Ladi Bala for president who hails from same Zone.
The 10th Triennial NAWOJ National Delegates Conference was attended by NUJ National President, Chief Chris Isiguzo and top National officers.
AIt was a celebration galore by Adamawa contingents in Minna as other supporters of Ladi Bala joined them.
Mrs. Gloria Abutu, an agent of Vilian Murray at the Kutigi conference Center, the venue of the event said, though it was easy because of the whole night she spent standing and gave glory to God as Ladi Bala won.
