1. Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the establishment of food banks in various parts of the state for the distribution of food items to vulnerable families, hit by the lingering naira and fuel crises. He warned criminals and mischief makers, who may want to exploit the situation as an opportunity to incite violence, saying any attempt by criminally-minded individuals to breach the peace in Lagos would be counterproductive. 2. Major and independent fuel dealers differed on whether or not subsidy on fuel should be retained. While the major marketers advised the Federal Government to take advantage of the drop in landing rate of the product and end the subsidy regime, independent markers said doing so without getting the nation’s refineries back on stream would inflict more pain on Nigerians. The two unions stated their positions ,shortly after the government blamed the lingering fuel scarcity on greedy marketers. NATION

3. The head of Kenya police service has disowned a reported operation on the home of former interior minister Fred Matiang’i in Nairobi on Wednesday night. Inspector General Japhet Koome told journalists that no officers under the National Police Service were sent to the former minister’s residence. The ex-minister’s lawyer had on Wednesday said that Mr Matiang’i was holed up in his home and accused the government of trying to falsely accuse and frame his client. BBC

4.The Ministry of Youth & Sports Development may have laid to rest the controversy around the medal table of the last National Sports Festival after a ratified version which eventually made Delta State losing a whopping 40 medals, has been released

5.The comedian and actor Williams Uchemba has written a beautiful note to celebrate his daughter’s first birthday and also revealed God’s instructions to him years before birthing her. The World Bank and International Monetary Fund added their voices to the growing number of institutions and individuals asking for the extension of the deadline for the transition of old naira notes to new ones. The two Bretton Woods institutions said the period allowed for Nigerians to switch from old to the redesigned notes was short. NATION

The regulatory agency for universities in Nigeria, the National Universities Commission has ordered the closure of universities across the country to enable students to participate in the 2023 general elections. In a letter addressed to vice-chancellors of all universities and directors of inter-university centres, the NUC noted that the directive was based on the directive of the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu. 8. Twenty-four hours to the deadline set by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, for the swap of the old naira notes, there is a high level of anxiety across the country. The Supreme Court had on Wednesday temporarily halted the move by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to ban the use of the old naira notes from February 10, 2023. A 7-member panel led by Justice John Okoro halted the move while ruling in an ex-parte application brought by three northern States of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara. DAILY POST

9. Veteran actress Patience Ozokwor aka Mama G has advised youngsters in the movie industry yet to attain stardom. Mama G told them to discard the idea that they have to reside in Lagos or Abuja to become stars. Citing herself as a good example, Ozokwor said one can become a star regardless of the State one resides in. NATION

10. The coach of Christian Atsu’s Turkish club Hatayspor said on Wednesday the Ghana midfielder is yet to be found despite Ghana’s Football Association (GFA) announcing earlier this week that he had been found. On Tuesday, the GFA said Atsu had “been successfully rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building and is receiving treatment” after the 7.8-magnitude quake struck early on Monday. VANGUARD
