1. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said a total of 146,913 domestic and international observers will be deployed for the 2023 general elections. The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this at the INEC briefing for observers of the 2023 general election in Abuja on Tuesday. According to the INEC boss, the number of observers is the largest in the history of the country. VANGUARD

2. Less than four days to the February general election, some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have attacked and blown off the administrative offices of the Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State. According to report the incident occurred on Monday night when the assailants invaded the area with some explosives. DAILY POST

3. Former Barcelona and Brazil star Dani Alves will remain in custody pending his trial for allegedly raping a woman as he is considered a high flight risk, the Provincial Court of Barcelona decided Tuesday. “There is an elevated risk of absconding, linked on the one hand to the high sentence that could be imposed because of the present case, the serious evidence of criminality against him and large financial resources that would allow him to leave Spain at any time,” the court said in a statement. The court believe taking the 39-year-old’s passport would not prevent him from leaving Spain “by air or sea or even by land without documentation.” PUNCH

President Joe Biden slipped into Kyiv on Monday for the first time since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine almost a year ago, demonstrating in dramatic personal fashion his commitment to the country and its struggle as the war enters an uncertain new phase. The highly secretive visit – which took place as air raid sirens could be heard ringing out around Kyiv while Biden walked alongside President Volodymyr Zelensky around the gold-domed St. Michael’s Cathedral – comes at a critical moment in the 12-month conflict, with Russia preparing for an expected spring offensive and Ukraine hoping to soon retake territory. 5. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has debunked the fake news posted on the verified Instagram and Facebook handles of the First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Buhari. The fake news posted on the two social media handles of the First Lady on Tuesday morning purportedly indicated that the old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes have been allowed to be recirculated as legal tender till May 1, 2023 contrary to the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari that only the old N200 banknote is allowed as legal tender till April 10, 2023. 6. The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the removal of Naja’atu Muhammad as the North-West coordinator of the Commission for election duty in the February 25 and March 11 general polls. PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement on Monday, said the commission is committed to free and fair elections and will contribute its quota to the sustenance of democracy. CHANNELS

9. Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has described the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, as COVID-23. Lamenting the hardship occasioned by the scarcity of cash, which followed the redesigning of N200, N500 and N1000 notes, the governor, who had kicked against the policy, said, “our citizens are being faced with COVID-23”. Ganduje was speaking while distributing palliatives to the 44 local government areas of the state in a bid to cushion the effects of the CBN Redesigning Program. DAILY POST
