1. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has hailed IA-Foundation for offering strategic support to Nigeria’s education sector, saying that the charity had contributed immensely to Nigeria’s growth. According to the vice-president, IA-Foundation has made remarkable impact in reducing the number of girls who are unable to access education, due to poverty, insecurity or poor orientation about the importance of acquiring education. The foundation is active in nine states in Nigeria, including Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Delta, Ekiti, Kwara, Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory. NAN

2. A coalition of Civil Society Organisations in the South East under the aegis of South East Network for Democracy and Accountability SENDA has added its voice to the call for the cancellation of the Presidential election outcome. It alleged that the election fell short of international standards and was not conducted in compliance with the Electoral Act. The group urged Nigerians not to be deterred by what happened during the elections, urging them to come out en masse to exercise their franchise during the forthcoming governorship and House of Assembly elections. 3. The Federal High Court in Kano, presided over by Justice Muhammad Yunusa, has granted bail in the sum of 500 million naira to the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives Alhassan Doguwa, who was charged with culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms and breach of public peace. The judge ordered that Doguwa must get two sureties. Justice Yunusa, who granted the application, said the sureties shall be first-class emir and senior officer in civil service. The court also ordered Doguwa to drop his passport with court registry pending the conclusion of his trial. PUNCH

4. Free-scoring Gambia have reached the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations finals for the first time after defeating Nigeria by a lone goal at the Cairo International Stadium, Egypt.
Lanky forward Adama Bojang capitalised on a defensive slip by Captain Daniel Bameyi to slot beyond Goalkeeper Chijioke Aniagboso for the only goal of the match in the 7th minute. It was the only goal Aniagboso had conceded in the tournament. Nigeria will now compete for bronze in the third-place game against Tunisia on Friday. DAILY TRUST

5. The UN children’s agency, Unicef says the number of pregnant women and girls who are suffering from malnutrition has soared by a quarter in the last two years in countries like Somalia, Ethiopia and Afghanistan. Unicef estimates that more than a billion women and adolescent girls across the world are malnourished. It is worried that recent crises including war and Covid 19 have made it increasingly hard for them to get the food they need. It has urged the international community to make food security a priority, including supporting failing nutrition programmes. BBC

6. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Eti Osa Federal House of Representatives seat, Bankole Wellington, better known by his stage name of “Banky W,” has spoken out for the first time since losing the election. Recall that in the just-concluded 2023 elections, the Labour Party’s Thaddeus Attah unexpectedly defeated Banky W and won the post. In a video that he posted of himself at a Sunday service in church, Banky W expressed his deep disappointment at losing the election. The singer stated in the video that he had made extensive preparations in anticipation of his triumph, including plans for a Sunday thanksgiving programme, searching for a flat and office in Abuja, and more. 7. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has stated that the declaration of results done at Doguwa/Tundunwada Federal Constituency was done under duress. The commission, in the list of winners posted on its Twitter timeline on Monday, said the result that declared the Majority Leader of the House, Alhassan Doguwa as the winner was done under duress. It would be recalled that Section 65 of the Electoral Act gives the commission the power to void results declared under duress. DAILY POST

8. The All Progressives Congress, on Tuesday, in Abuja, assembled a team of highly qualified and experienced lawyers to represent it at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. According to a statement by Ahmad El-Marzuq, APC National Legal Adviser, the team comprised legal luminaries with vast experience in election petition matters, constitutional law and litigation. He said the legal team, consisting of 13 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, was led by Prince Lateef Fagbemi, a renowned lawyer. El-Marzuq said Fagbemi had successfully handled various high-profile election matters and other landmark cases. PUNCH

AS presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, head to court over conduct of the 2023 presidential election, the senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, DIGC, Dr. Paul Enenche, has advised the judiciary to be transparent, fair and set the country on the right path of electoral justice. Enenche, while stating that the 2023 presidential election lacked probity and credibility, said Malawi was caught up in a similar scenario but the Judiciary was able to rescue and set the pace for constitutional democracy in Malawi. Internationally celebrated award-winning gospel singer Mercy Chinwo popularly known as Minister Mercy is set to gather thousands of her francophone fans in a grand concert in Lome, Republic of Togo. The concert scheduled for March 12, 2023, is set to be packed by Christians across Togo who will gather to worship alongside Chinwo in an electrifying atmosphere. PULSE
