1. Resident Electoral Commissioners will today meet with the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission Mahmood Yakubu ahead of next Saturday’s governorship and state assembly elections. The meeting is to discuss ways to avert the glitches experienced in uploading results of the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections to the Results Viewing Portal (IReV). The presidential and National Assembly elections raised questions about the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and IReV Portal deployed by the commission to enhance the credibility of the electoral process. 2. The National Bar Association has condemned the stance of the Federal Government on its naira redesign policy. The association president, Yakubu Maikyau is demanding compliance with the judgment of the Supreme Court delivered on March 3. The NBA in the wake of the naira redesign policy had engaged in broad consultations with critical stakeholders in the country in order to assess the possible impact of the policy on the economy and the people of Nigeria. The body of lawyers said the CBN’s cash swap program which took effect on 23 January 2023 has not addressed the concerns of Nigerians post-31 January 2023. PUNCH
3. The Arewa Consultative Forum says that the naira redesign has damaged the credentials of President Muhammadu Buhari as a democrat and the scarcity caused by the naira redesign might lead to a breakdown of law and order in Nigeria. The forum’s Secretary-General, Murtala Aliyu said Buhari should respect the Supreme Court ruling on old naira notes. Aliyu said ten days ago, the Supreme Court of Nigeria had held that Buhari breached the constitution in the way he issued a directive to the CBN for the redesign of the naira without consulting with the National Council of States and the federal executive council. 4. Namibia’s President Hage Geingob has named Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the sole candidate for the ruling Swapo party in next year’s elections. The president called on party members to support Nandi-Ndaitwah when official campaigns begin next year. She is the party’s vice-president and the country’s current deputy prime minister. President Geingob also called on Swapo members not to create factions from the outcome of the party nominations. The President is due to step down next year after serving two terms. 5. The International Federation of Football History and Statistics has named Vincent Enyeama as the greatest African goalkeeper of all time. IFFHS ranked the goalkeepers from 1987 to 2022. The ranking was done for all the different continents including Europe, South America and Asia. Enyeama was recognised for his impressive displays during his active days with the Super Eagles. The shot stopper also made a big impact in Enyimba winning the CAF Champions League title in 2003 and 2004. DAILY POST
6. Former Head Coach of Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s senior national team, Ismaila Mabo, has died at the age of 79 in the early hours of Monday. According to family sources, the former national player and captain of Mighty Jets Football Club of Jos died after a protracted illness at his residence in Jos, Plateau State. Funeral activities have commenced with prayers at the family house in Jos and the burial at the Zaria road burial ground, according to Muslim rites. Najib Mabo, one of the children of the coach, described the death of his father as a big loss to the family and the nation at large. CHANNELS
7. In the late hours of Saturday, 11th March 2023, news floated on Twitter that South African musician Costa Titch has passed away after slumping and dying on stage. According to reports, the 27 year old artist was performing at a show before suddenly slumping on stage and confirmed dead a few minutes later. Tributes have been pouring in on Twitter since the news broke. Politician Julius Malema tweeted a heart break emoji while fans have also expressed shock at the news of his passing. PULSE
8. The Governor of Anambra State, Prof Charles Soludo confirmed on Monday that the Central Bank of Nigeria has asked commercial banks to dispense and accept old naira notes as deposits. According to report Soludo, a former CBN governor, made this known in a statement he posted on his social media handles. He explained that the Governor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele gave the directive at a Banker’s Committee meeting on Sunday. DAILY POST
9. The Kano State Fire Service confirmed that a fire incident on Monday razed some shops, including the upper building of old Savannah Bank at Singer Market in Kano. A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, disclosed that the fire started around 2:18am. However, Abdullahi said several temporary shops were completely razed by the fire, adding that the fire service was yet to ascertain the cause and the accurate number of the affected shops. PUNCH

Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi popularly known as Tems has been a talking point on social media after her elaborate outfit blocked the view of fellow attendees at Sunday night’s Academy Awards. Tems was a nominee at the 95th Academy Awards held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, in the United States. While some Nigerians have poured their praises on her for appearing at the show with the flamboyant dress, some others have slammed her for being flashy.
