1. Nigeria’s new President, Bola Tinubu says the era of subsidy payment on fuel has ended. He said the 2023 Budget made no provision for fuel subsidy and more so, subsidy payment is no longer justifiable. 2. Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Chairman of Daar Communications has reportedly died. According to reports, Dokpesi, who was a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party died at the age of 71 in Abuja. A source who spoke with correspondent revealed he died in an Abuja hospital after he suffered a stroke. This reportedly happened after the recent Ramadan fast. PUNCH

3. Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has ordered all government bank accounts frozen. Alia made the declaration in his inaugural speech shortly after taking the oath of office as Governor of Benue State at the IBB Square on Monday. The governor said a ‘Post No Debit’ instruction shall remain in force until all signatories are changed. DAILY POST

Senator Uba Sani, Executive Governor of Kaduna State ,Senator Uba Sani has told the people of Kaduna State that his administration would prioritize security and welfare of the citizens, adding that he came prepared and determined with clear vision to govern the state. He spoke during his swearing in ceremony at the Murtala Square Kaduna on Monday,insisting that as governor,he wouid deploy modern governance tools and technology to tackle poverty and insecurity in the state. A Nigerian based in the United Kingdom (UK), Mr Peter Ayeni, is set to launch a platform to train Nigerians interested in shifting career paths to the technology sector with the concept of “Tech-Clarity”. Ayeni, a senior software engineer in one of the leading UK companies disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja over the weekend. He said the idea behind Tech-Clarity coach was rooted in recognising the rapidly growing importance and influence of technology in every sector of the economy. LEADERSHIP

6. Nigeria will face rivals Argentina in the Round of 16 at the 2023 U-20 World Cup. The Flying Eagles will take on the hosts in an encounter on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Ladan Bosso’s team finished as one of the third-best-placed teams after earning six points from three Group D games. They beat the Dominican Republic 2-1, and humbled Italy in their second match before bowing to heavyweights Brazil 2-0. CHANNELS

Renowned singer, Seun Kuti has expressed his strong disapproval towards critics of the Buhari administration who willingly accepted national awards bestowed upon them by the outgoing president’s administration. Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari honoured 339 notable Nigerians with national awards as he concludes his tenure. 8. Dortmund’s teenage midfielder Jude Bellingham was on Monday named Bundesliga player of the season. This comes two days after the heartbreak of watching his team lose the German title in the last match, to top rival, Bayern Munich. Dortmund, coming from behind, racked up a point after playing a 2-2 draw against Mainz.The 19-year-old England international collected most votes in a ‘Team of the Season’ poll. However, he could not feature in the last match of the season due to a late knee injury. Bellingham appeared in 31 of his team’s 34 games starting in 30. He recorded 2,693 league minutes, the most of any player at the club, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. PUNCH

Yeni Kuti, daughter of afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has revealed that the decision by her uncle, Dr. Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, to announce that the late singer died of Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, AIDS, was initially rejected by them, the deceased’s children. She said they later accepted for their uncle to make the announcement after series of persuasions from family members. The dancer said she later discovered that her uncle’s decision was the best because it put speculations about the cause of the death of the legendary musician to rest permanently. DAILY POST

10. Canada has announced faster temporary resident visa (TRV) processing and more considerate application measures. Making this known in a statement, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, said the new process is for families to be together sooner while they wait for their permanent residence to be finalized. He said that going forward, most of these applications will be processed within 30 days, and applicants will benefit from processing measures specific to their circumstances as spouses and dependents.
