Nigeria records continuous decrease in COVID-19 cases, deaths -NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said the country recorded a continuous downward trend in the spread of COVID-19 infections.

The agency reported that there was also a decrease in the number of samples tested across the country in the past week.

This was contained in the COVID-19 situation report that was made available on Sunday.

According to the latest report on the daily COVID-19 Case Update by the agency, as of April 14 and 15only two cases of the virus were recorded in the country.

The NCDC stated that since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it recorded a total of 255,648 cases of the virus, discharged 249,847 persons and reported 3,143 deaths.

In the situation report, the agency stated, “The number of samples tested decreased to 68,911 from 83,642 reported in week 13.

“The number of new confirmed cases decreased to 116 from 182 with no difference in the percentage test positivity reported in week 13.

“The number of discharged cases increased to 131 from 89 in week 13. There were no deaths reported in the last one week.”

“The number of inbound international travellers tested was 4,416 of which 25 were positive compared to 70 in week 13.

“In week 14, the number of outbound international travellers tested was 6,413, of which 33 were positive compared to 15 out of 6,351 in week 13.”

Globally, 499,119,316 cases of the COVID-19 have been confirmed, while 6,185,242 deaths were recorded.

In spite of the decrease, the NCDC urged Nigerians to get fully protected against the virus by taking the COVID-19 vaccine and to also follow all stipulated non-pharmaceutical safety measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
