Troops of Operation Saharan Daji (OPSD), fighting bandits in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria, have killed 37 bandits, but lost 6 during an operation.
A statement by the Acting Force Information Officer, Major Clement Abiade said the bandits were killed simultaneously during an operation to decimate banditry activities in Zamfara and other contiguous States.
Abiade said during the raids, six suspected bandit informants, cattle rustlers, kidnappers and logistics suppliers were arrested.
“In this regard, a total of 6 soldiers paid the supreme prize along Bini Maru LGA, while returning to base after a long range patrol”, he said.
The acting Information Officer said the Air Component of Operations also carried out several Air strikes around Dumburum Forest.
“Subsequent mop up operations in Dumburum Forest led to the rescue of 80 abductees. The abductees consisted of men, women and children from communities in Zamfara State”, he said.
Abiade assures that OPSD remain resolute to the mandate of tackling the menace of armed banditry in Zamfara State.
