In a Sallah message released ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, NLC President Joe Ajaero declared that Nigerian workers and the less privileged are “bleeding” under the heavy burden of harsh neoliberal policies.
Ajaero stated that millions of citizens are currently enduring unprecedented hardships driven by economic decisions that have drastically deepened poverty.
He called on political leaders to urgently reflect on the human consequences of their policy choices, arguing that governance must prioritize human lives and essential needs—such as food, housing, healthcare, education, and decent employment—over corporate profits.
Moving beyond mere festive greetings, the labor union urged Nigerians to utilize the Eid period for deep reflection and action.
The NLC advocate using the holiday for “political education, grassroots organising, and the building of a united front of the oppressed” to collectively demand better governance and social justice.
