Veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru has passed away at the age of 57 following a brief illness.

The actor’s family confirmed his death in a statement released on his verified Instagram handle in the early hours of Friday, October 23, 2026.
Confirming the development, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Duru as a giant of the Nigerian film industry.
The tragic news comes approximately two years after the actor suffered a heartbreaking personal loss when his 15-year-old son, Ifeanyi, passed away in August 2024.
Duru, who rose to prominent fame for his breakout role as Ahanna in the 1995 classic Rattlesnake, built a career spanning over three decades.
His death marks another painful loss for the Nigerian creative community, leaving colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders in mourning.
