The strike, which was initially declared in response to the recent kidnapping of teachers and students in the Oriire Local Government Area, came to an end following a directive from the union’s national leadership.

In a joint statement issued by the Oyo State NUT Chairman, Hassan Fatai, and Secretary, Olukayode Salami, the union directed all affected educators to resume their official duties starting Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The NUT emphasized that the decision to return to the classroom was made in the collective interest of the students, teachers, and the public, after receiving firm assurances from the Oyo State Government that aggressive, sustained efforts are underway to secure the safe release of the remaining captives and permanently fortify security networks around vulnerable school communities.
