Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi worthless, Atiku and Tinubu reacts

The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, on Wednesday, rejected the European Union Election Observers Mission report on the 25 February presidential election

The APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has dismissed former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of Labor Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi as “useless”.

He said APC candidate Bola Tinubu will not lose sleep over Obasanjo’s action, because the former president is a “political paperweight” who failed to win the Nigerian elections for anyone.

The former president had endorsed Obi’s candidacy in an open letter to young Nigerians on Sunday.

But in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, the PCC said that while it respects Obasanjo’s right to support and endorse any candidate of his choice in any election, his endorsement of Obi is worthless.

He added that their our party and candidate, Asíwájú Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will not lose sleep over Obasanjo’s move, as Obasanjo is known for always opposing progressive political forces, as he did against MKO Abiola in 1993.
Obasanjo’s endorsement does not guarantee victory for any candidate in a presidential election, but he is considered one of the most influential Nigerians alive.

Reacting to the development presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the major opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday publicly criticize former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for declaring support for one of the presidential hopefuls, Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

In a special New Year message Obasanjo said though none of the contestants is a saint but when compared in terms of knowledge, discipline and what they can offer, Obi has an edge over others. He therefore called on youths to rally round the LP candidate.

Obasanjo also took a swipe at Tinubu and Atiku, saying ‘Emi Lokan’ (My turn) and ‘I have paid my dues’ are one and the same thing and are wrong attitude and mentality for the leadership of Nigeria now.

In a swift reaction, the APC candidate described the endorsement as “worthless” that would not pose threat to his ambition, while the PDP, on its part, said it was not looking for the endorsement of any individual.

according to report both Tinubu and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, had at different times met with Obasanjo and sought for his blessings and both Tinubu and Obasanjo were silent on the outcome of the closed-door meeting. NewsLorge/daily trust
