Police nabs Nigerien, two others for possession of firearms, impersonation in Sokoto

Police in Sokoto state on Thursday confirmed the arrest  of a suspected alien, Idi Abdullahi of Dogon Dutse from Niger Republic impersonating as a military  ‎personnel.

Abdullahi who was intercepted by a police crack team(SARS) was found in possession of a pistol‎ and pump action with 7 rounds of live ammunition and 76 rounds of cartridges respectively.

Other items recovered from the suspect include 1 axe, one infinix handset, LG phone with six SIM cards,
Briefing newsmen while parading the suspect, ‎the command spokesperson, ASP Cordelia Nwawe said the suspect, claimed to be in Sokoto for hunting but investigation revealed that such arms were not used for hunting.

” He is not for hunting and we found him also in possession of a Kasea motorcycle, camouflage, an international ‎passport which is not certified to be a Nigerian. He is an alien and a native of Niger Republic.

” he claimed to have license and permission of his country to bear the said firearms”.

According to the spokesperson, the suspect said it was one Ibrahim, a police officer in Niger Republic that bought the arms for him and obtained the license through one Sule of Niamey, Niger Republic.

In the same vein, Nwawe also announced the arrest of a police suspect, Aminu Abubakar  a.k.a Sheshe Baba who had been at large for impersonation and turning his home to a mini police station.

Sheshe, according to Nwawe was arrested on 12th March, 2018.

” We found the suspect with a police uniform which he uses to extort money from unsuspected public.

” Our investigation revealed that he was a dismissed police personnel‎ who now use uniform including sweater of the force to carry out his activities.

‎” These items: police shirt, sweater and a T-shirt were recovered
from him during a search in his house”, she confirmed.

Accordingly, the police spokesperson said one ‎Umar Muhammad Mabera was nabbed for impersonating and collecting money from parents as aide to serving Senator Abdullahi Danbaba Damboa, Sokoto South on account that the Senator was offering 50% scholarship to students.

The suspect is said to be a staff with Illela local government of Sokoto state‎.

” He has been to three schools telling students to inform their parents who in turn gave monies.

” ‎He has been to Success Academy, Global Kids and Blue Crescent schools respectively where he issued bank tellers as receipt to unsuspecting victims who paid him monies.

” The parents ‎of the students came to report to the police and we swung into action that led to his arrest”, Nwawe explained.

According to her” all suspects would be charged to court upon completion of full investigations.”

She however said the police in Sokoto remain at the forefront in reversing the state to a crime free zone, stressing that‎” we are poised to work with the clear directive of the IGP to ensure that the state and country is not infiltrated by crime and criminals”, while  appealing to the institutions both financial and public to be vigilant and careful with their documents and records, adding ” the SARS team in Sokoto is up and doing and will not allow people from within and outside the country to tarnish our image and efforts at nipping crime in the bud”, Nwawe vowed.
