For according priority and high standard commitment to the eradication of polio,the World Health Organisation(WHO) has described Sokoto state as the best in the country.
Scoring the state at the polio review meeting held Thursday in Sokoto, the state Coordinator of WHO, Dr Habibu Yahaya noted that the state government has undoubtedly shown commitment by giving polio eradication programme the best of attention.
” It is evidently clear that you have shown examplary level of commitment to logistics and other relevant support to polio eradication in the state and nation in particular.”
According to the WHO coordinator, at the meeting chaired by the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, the success was attributed to the frank commitment by stakeholders in the state, which he urged to be sustained.
He said the fight against poliomylitis was a collective responsiblity while maintaining that stakeholders should collectively work towards pushing out the wild polio virus from the state and Nigeria as a whole.
Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of the State Task Force on Polio Eradication and Routine Immunisation and Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu re-assured of the state government’s passion for a healthy society, adding “since we assumed office, we have taken health care delivery as our key and top most priority in the state and the result has been fantastic.”
He however, gingered the spirit of stakeholders reminding of the need for the state to redouble it efforts inorder to sustain the tempo
