Polio: Sokoto council boss engages organisations, union of non compliant doctors, nurses in dialogue

Sokoto south Local Government Area Sole Administrator, Alhaji Farouk Abdulrahman Sawidi has vowed to initiate a responsive dialogue with appropriate umbrellar body and organisations under which doctors and nurses who resisted and did not comply with the polio vaccine to be administered on their children during the immunisation exercise in the area.

Though, the local government had progressively recorded some remarkable successes in reducing the rate of Non Compliance by house holds during the first three days of the exercise.

” We will ensure that the state government intervenes as a major stakeholder and authority.”

Alhaji Sawidi spoke exclusively to The Nation on Tuesday , shortly after the exercise daily review meeting.

According to him” we have a comprehensive list of the doctors and nurses which we will forward to their respective bodies and organisations so that we sit and dialogue on the unfortunate experience.”

The Council Boss who expressed concern over the development further said” It is shocking and disturbing for a professional to kick against immunising their wards even though, they are aware of the dangers caused killers diseases to children yet did that.

” If a professional will do that, why will a non professional not resist or kick against immunising his or her children. They ought to have been positive examples to others”, he lamented.

He said ” we will dialogue with been confrontational for them to realise the danger attach to their action against the exercise so that we resolve it.”

Sawidi who also explained that his Council had taken steps to ensure proper environmental hygiene, added that” we are working closely with the state government’s Ministry for Environment to effectively sanitise all nook and cranny especially within the council’s headquarters.”

Similarly, the Sole Administrator disclosed that efforts were being made to ensure appreciable rise in the girl child school enrolement through collaboration with ward heads, religious and community leaders to encourage enrolment.

” We will make survey to fish out school drop outs and get them back in school. We have started motivating some of them by providing school uniforms and other basic aids so that their parents would hive some relief.

” Already, there are personal individuals like Professor Aminu Ibrahim who constructed a block of classroom and donated to Dallatu Primary school, T/Wada and Alhaji Abdullahi Bafarawan Gabas who voluntrily constructed parameter fence at Mabera Magaji Girls Junior Day Secondary School for security and comfort of the students.

” He also promised to construct and equip a library edifice for the school”, Sawidi said.
