The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu has alleged that some Consultants collaborated with staff of the Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST to embezzle 89 trillion naira collected as the country’s stamp duty.
Shehu stated this on tuesday in his reaction to the accusation thrown at him by a member of the House of Representatives, Muhammadu Kazaure, who alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration could not account for the 89 trillion naira collected as Stamp Duty.
It can be recalled that Kazaure had said that President Muhammadu Buhari constituted a committee, of which he was a secretary, to recover the missing fund.
But responding to the lawmaker’s claim, Shehu said the anomaly arose because certain characters apparently formed a cartel with collaborators in the Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST and were allegedly collecting and pocketing the money.
He explained that the said missing 89 trillion naira is an imaginary contraption purported by its proponents.
According to him, if the federal government had the alleged 89 trillion money in its confers, it would have paid off all debts owned by both federal and state governments. DAILY
