President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The swearing-in ceremony took place a week after the Senate confirmed his appointment following a screening session held on October 16, 2025.
Following the oath of office, President Tinubu immediately charged the professor of Law with the crucial responsibility of protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s elections and electoral process.
The President emphasized that the new Chairman must focus on strengthening the institutional capacity of INEC. Tinubu underscored the vital link between electoral integrity and national democracy, stating that for Nigeria’s democracy to “continue to flourish, the integrity of its electoral system must be beyond reproach.”
