Former United States President Barack Obama has paid a personal tribute to the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti in a new podcast series dedicated to the musician’s extraordinary art and activism.

Obama delivered the tribute on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, through the podcast series titled “Fela Kuti: Fear No Man,” which is produced by Higher Ground, a media company owned by Obama and his wife, Michelle.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, the former President expressed his deep admiration for the late Nigerian innovator and political activist.
Obama called Fela Kuti a “musical genius from Nigeria” and a “unique figure in musical history who made music that he really loved.” He stated that his admiration for the Afrobeat pioneer was personal.
The “Fela Kuti: Fear No Man” series is dedicated by the Obamas to celebrate figures who successfully blended art with activism in musical history.
Fela Kuti, who died in 1997, gained global recognition for his powerful music, which was famously critical of military dictatorship and pervasive corruption in Nigeria.
