The Sokoto state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) 2018 annual Press Week events will commence today with a Memorial Lecture and prayer in honour of late Special
Adviser to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Media and Public Affairs, Imam Dalhatu Imam.
The Lecture according to programme rolled out for the week-long events, the memorial lecture which is aimed at x-raying and bringing to bare, the professional contributions, human relations virtues and dedication of the late Special Adviser to service for humanity during his life time experience in journalism would hold at the audirotrium hall of the Sultan Muhammadu Maccido Institute of Qur’anic and General Studies, Sokoto.
Imam died last week Thursday in a hospital in Abuja after a brief illness.
Explaining further other events lined up for the Press Week, Chairman of the Council, Isah Abubakar Shuni said the union would on Saturday, also pay visits to the state Orphanage Home, Paediatric wards of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto and the Maryam Abacha Women and Children hospital for donations to needy patients.
Shuni said the union will on Sunday visit and inspect projects sites and those executed by the state government while on same day, a friendly match will be played between journalists and Doctors in Sokoto state.
However, a visit to the Sokoto Central Prisons to secure the release of inmates with minor charges will be facilitated by the union.
In the same vein, 3 selected secondary schools would Monday be visited with a view to encourage the take off of Red Cross activities while an interactive session with heads of security agencies in the state and state government officials would hold on Tuesday.
The Chairman said the week-long events would round up on Wednesday with a special congress of the union in the morning while a dinner would be held for friends of the state chapter of NUJ as well the launching of the union’s Almanac to climax the eventful week
