The Senate Committee on Works has frowned at the quality of work done on Kaduna Federal Roads .

The members of the Committee, who are in Kaduna on oversight function of Federal Government projects across the six geo-political zones in Nigeria visited Kaduna today.
The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya told the project manager of Mothercat, the contractor handling the maintenance job on Kaduna-Zaria Road that shoddy job will not be tolerated.
He explained that a situation, where patches on the road disintegrate few months after fixing them is unacceptable. He advised the contractor to blend the patches, adding ” If holes are still on places patched is as good as work undone.”
While noting that pavement is part of the contract ,Gaya said durability of roads depends on well constructed pavement.
He also said , ” If roadbed is well constructed, the shoulder too should be treated well.”
According to him, for safety of Nigerians, the contractor should engage independent labour to control the vegetation explaining that if the grass along are left unattended to, armed robbers and other hoodlums will capitalise on the unleash havoc on road users.
He further said that a situation where one lane of the road is being concentrated on leaving motorists to use lane on going and coming is unacceptable. The committee Chairman said both lanes should be started at the same time for safety and convenience of road users.
Meanwhile ,he assured the contractor that as 2018 fiscal year approaches; all differences incurred for quality of job done will be settled by the government.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the project, Engineer Sa’ad Tukur told the Committee at the Jaji Bridge that an accident occurred at bridge soon after it was completed and commissioned.
He said that Dangote truck was involved in an accident causing a colossal damage to the bridge constructed by an Italian company Broni Prono. He however explained that plan is on for a fresh bridge as the damaged one has become a death trap.
At the Sir, Kashim Ibrahim House, when the federal lawmakers paid a courtesy call on the governor, the Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai eulogised the lawmakers describing them as patriots that are willing to entrench good governance in the country.
