The senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has called on the Federal Government and the Nigeria Immigration Service to apply the diplomatic principle of reciprocity against South Africa following recent visa denials and xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians.

Senator Natasha made the call on Thursday evening amid growing public calls by Nigerians to boycott South African singer Tyla’s upcoming concert in Lagos.
The backlash follows the South African government’s decision to deny visas to Nigerian singer Ayra Starr and her crew, forcing the cancellation of her scheduled performances in South Africa.
Reacting via her Instagram page, the lawmaker condemned what she described as persistent disrespect toward Nigerians, emphasizing that “reciprocity is a recognized instrument of diplomacy.”
She urged Nigerian authorities to respond with equivalent measures in accordance with international relations standards to protect the dignity of Nigerian citizens and creatives.
