THE Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria(SOGON) yesterday said it had committed over N4 million to provide outreach services for over 200 women patients suffering from various ailments in Sokoto state.
Addressing a press conference as prelude to its 51st Annual General Meeting(AGM) and Conference, Chairman LOC and CMD, Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, Dr Yakubu Ahmed said the essence of the outreach programme was to provide services to women with cancer, VVF and any other gynaecological ailment.
” Over 100 patients have been targeted for screening.”
Ahmed said there are a total of 3 difficult surgery cases to be repaired within the period, adding ” each can take over 10hrs to be completed.
” They are VVF patients who were previously operated upon and are still experiencing leakage “, he stated.
According to the CMD, the Society is using three outposts which include Maryam Abacha Women and Children, Specialist hospital Sokoto and UDUTH for the exercise by engaging specialised personnel.
He said 25 VVF patients were already on the row out of which will be treated for 10 major surgery and 5 for minor respectively.
The Co-Chair, Dr Karimatu Abubakar Tunau also explained that who confirmed the difficult VVF cases to be repaired said the Society had been working in collaboration with support organs to achieve the objective of the outreach services.
She noted that maternal health remain a critical area in providing health services.
The theme of the conference starting from 19th-25th November, 2017 is :” Maternal and New Born Health in a Challenging Economy”
