‘Sokoto is a mini Nigeria, we don’t discriminate’ – Tambuwal

By Ado Hassan, Sokoto

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has said that Sokoto remains a state where equal opportunities are being enjoyed by Nigerians irrespective of origin, religion and tribal affiliations.

” Everyone in Sokoto enjoys healthcare, education and relief packages provided by the state’s Zakkat and Waqf Commission (SOZECOM) free of charge.”

The governor described the historic state as a mini Nigeria with traditions and cultures that represents the nation.

Tambuwal who stated this Tuesday night in Sokoto at a dinner organised in honour of staff of the National Defence College, Abuja and participants of the college’s Course 29th held at the Presidential Lodge , Sokoto.

He noted that the cultural displays that featured to entertain the guests were truly the cultures and traditions of Nigeria, adding ” they are intertwined as they help in sending messages to different parts of the country.”

In the same vein, and in order to sustain the peace , unity and stability amidst the rich and diverse heritage that bounded the country, Tambuwal added “the state government doesn’t discriminate between indigenes and other Nigerians resident in the state.”

However, the governor stressed further that “this is a state where we don’t discriminate. That is why we are peaceful.”

Although, despite the cultural affiliations existing in the state were superlative, Tambuwal, however, noted that ” there is a drawback in some areas, thus necessitating the establishment of a Ministry of Culture and Tourism by his administration to revitalize the country’s cultural heritage as they exist in the state”, he disclosed.

In his usual display of gesture, Tambuwal offered free parcels of land to any of the participants willing to live in the state after retirement while expressing appreciation to the NDC for accepting his proposal of partnership with the state government to undertake a study on banditry and kidnapping on behalf of the state government.

In his remarks, leader of the study tour Team, Air Commodore Dauda Garba Prayero, appreciated the well packaged reception and lectures organized by the state government for the participants.

According to him” this is a prove that the choice of the state as a destination for a crop of its participants by the NDC “is not misplaced”, describing the nomination of Tambuwal as a ‘digital governor’ by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and for his visible efforts in developing science and technology through heavy investments in education has shown that he is technophiles.
