Parading the suspects before newsmen, the Commandant of the corps in the state, Mr. Babangida Abdullahi said that the suspects were aged between11 and 30 years old were apprehended by officers of the corps on Thursday night, when they started breaking into some shops at the market.
” Items such as guinea brocade and bundles of locally chewing sticks were recovered from them”,he said.
The Commandant lamented the recurring cases of burglary in the market in the past few months.
He further noted, ”the senior suspects among the suspects were training the teenage ones.
” The suspects were using locally made tools to cut the locks of the affected shops and got access to into them.”
Abdullahi also revealed that the suspects were hiding themselves during the maret hours, came out in the night and broke into the shops.
According to him, the Command was in contact with the Sokoto State Attorney General to decide on what Court of law and the type of imprisonment the suspects will be given.
In the same vein, he stated that the suspects will soon be charged to court,while the under-aged ones among them will be taken to Juvenile Court.
In his remarks,the Director-General of the market, Alhaji Abdullahi Bafarawa, commended the Corps for properly coordinating the NSCDC outpost at the market.
Bafarawa also said that such relentless efforts had helped to reduce criminal activities in the market.
He maintained,” the market in partnership with over 100 market traders’ association were doing their best to ensure security and unity at the market.
